Each year, students in our Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program fundraise for Operation Christmas Child, a charity program run by Samaritan’s Purse where donors prepare and collect shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, personal items, and other small gifts for disadvantaged and poverty-stricken children who live in overseas countries.
One of our SEE classes recently ran a market day to raise money to put towards buying items for the shoebox appeal. Each student brought in some food or sweet treat they had made at home and sold it at the food stall. The fundraiser was a huge success and the small class raised a whopping $318 in just a few hours!
The students had a great time running the food stall and learnt about how to fundraise, developed their mathematics skills and also practised handling and counting money.
Last year our students made and posted 88 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child and they hope to do another 60 boxes this year.
If you would like to contribute by donating money for our students to put towards making more shoeboxes, please contact SEE Teacher Rachel Yesuratnam at email@example.com.
