What does the course involve?
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an urgent need for trained support workers in critical sectors. Centacare’s COVID-19 Direct Care Skill Set is a new option in employment pathways for existing workers and people seeking employment in the Aged Care, Disability and Healthcare sectors.
This online short course is an opportunity for existing support workers to upskill, and it will enable jobseekers to take up employment opportunities in entry-level support roles. It comprises of three nationally accredited units where you will learn about the risks of exposure to infectious disease and prevention, safe manual handling and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while delivering support services.
The course will be offered in a mix of online and face-to-face delivery, where the practical component will occur at our West Perth training centre.
Upon completion of the course, you can choose to pathway into further education and complete a full qualification in Centacare’s Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or (Ageing). Two of the units of competency completed under COVID-19 Direct Care Skill Set course can be credited into the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing).

Additional learning support is provided in class on Fridays; a trainer is available to help you and you can use the time to catch up on your work and assessments.
All applicants must attend a mandatory information session and interview prior to enrolment, which are held every Friday. This gives you the opportunity to learn more about the course and allows us to answer any questions you might have. It also allows us to learn more about you and assess your eligibility for fee subsidies.
Units of competency
HLTINF001 – Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
Learn about infection prevention and control procedures, including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to infection risks.
HLTWHS005 – Conduct manual tasks safety.
Learn safe manual handling techniques and personal protective equipment (PPE).
CHCCCS011 – Meet personal support needs.
Learn how to determine and respond to an individual’s physical personal support needs and how to support daily living activities.

To be eligible for this course, you must be aged 18+ and fall into one of the following categories:
