Employability Skills Training (EST)

Teaching young people the skills they need to successfully secure employment.

What is EST?

Centacare’s EST course is designed to support young people between the ages of 15 and 24 to gain the skills they need to successfully obtain and maintain a job. The course is delivered as part of the Australian Government’s Youth Jobs PaTH initiative and training is delivered face-to-face in two blocks of three weeks each.

Course Details

Training Block 1 focuses on work skills to help participants meet the expectations of employers in the workplace. They will learn communication, teamwork, time management, problem solving and additional technology skills.

Training is provided as three units of competency:

  • BSBWOR202 Organise and complete daily work activities
  • BSBCUS301 Deliver and monitor a service to customers
  • BSBITU203 Communicate electronically

These units form part of BSB20115 and BSB30115 Certificate II and III in Business and collectively cover all of the 10 Core Skills for Work Developmental Framework.

Training Block 2 focuses on career development and job preparation. Participants learn advanced job hunting skills, interview skills, how to write a letter of application, respond to selection criteria and prepare a résumé, while also learning about jobs and career pathways in different industries.

Centacare arranges for professionals from various industries to present to the students in class in order to showcase different work environments and career paths to help them discover which industry is right for them.

Training is provided as one module:

  • GATCDV101A Introduction to Career Development

Am I eligible?

You may be eligible for Centacare’s EST course if you are:

  • aged between 15 and 24 years old
  • on income support
  • registered with a jobactive provider
  • have mutual obligation requirements

How do I enrol?

If you’re interested in participating in our EST course, please contact your nearest jobactive provider and ask to be referred to the Youth Jobs PaTH program at Centacare.

If you are a jobactive provider who would like to refer a job seeker to our EST course, please do so by logging in to Employment Service Systems and use the ESS Activity IDs above, taking care to use the correct ID number for the relevant training site.

Participants study Monday – Thursday, 9am – 4pm at one of the following locations.
