What does the course involve?

Caring for people in a home or community environment is a worthwhile career which allows you to make valuable contributions to society.

If you want to gain a qualification which will help make you highly employable as a Care Worker in the fast-growing home and community care industry, then this is the course for you.

This course is delivered face-to-face from our state-of-the-art training facilities and will get you qualified for entry-level jobs in the growing home and community care sector. This course can also be a pathway to a career in nursing.

Study times:

Students attend class from 9am – 3:30pm, Monday – Thursday. Additional learning support is provided in class on Fridays; a trainer is available to help you and you can use the time to catch up on your work and assessments.


All applicants must attend a mandatory information session and interview prior to enrolment, which are held every Friday. This gives you the opportunity to learn more about the course and allows us to answer any questions you might have. It also allows us to learn more about you and assess your eligibility for fee subsidies.

Learn how to work in a home support environment and community settings with individuals, family members, staff, visitors and suppliers.

CHCPAL001 – Deliver care services using a palliative care approach
Learn how to support clients and families using a palliative care plan and gain an awareness of the issues arising from grief, loss and death.

CHCAGE002 – Implement falls prevention strategies
Learn how to work in partnership with older people and their carer/s to implement strategies to minimise the risk of falls.

Am I eligible for this course?

You may be eligible for this course if you fall into at least one of the following categories:

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Self-referred, referred by another agency; or
  • Unemployed or underemployed, and have a written referral from an approved participation referral agent; or
  • Recruited by the Service Provider.

Job Seekers must have a Newstart or Youth Allowance card. Other cards are not eligible, unless the person is referred by an approved participation referral agent for Job Seekers.

Note: ex-offenders can, if unemployed, be eligible for training.

To be eligible in this category, you must:

  • Be aged 15 – 24; and
  • Not be engaged in education or full time employment or training; and
  • Be unemployed or underemployed; and
  • Have a referral from an approved participation referral agent.

For school aged students, only those with an Exemption or full time Notice of Arrangement are eligible.

Persons from a CaLD background* must be unemployed or under-employed, must be born overseas** and hold the following documentation that may include but is not limited to:

  • A humanitarian visa; or
  • Other documentation showing they originated from a country defined as CaLD such as a passport, travel documents or a birth certificate; or
  • A referral from an approved participation referral agent for CaLD people.

*Refers to groups and individuals who differ according to religion, race, language and ethnicity from those whose ancestry is Anglo-Saxon, Anglo-Celtic, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
**Excluding those born in the following countries: Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, the United States and Wales.

How much does it cost?

The cost of this course depends on your eligibility status as outlined above. If you’re unsure about your eligibility or which course fees apply to you, contact us to day.

Capped Fees:

Capped fees apply to secondary school students who are born on or after 1st July 2000 and are at least 15 years of age. Students cannot be part of a VET in Schools program.

Concession Fees:

Concession fees apply to holders of a Health Care card, Pensioner Concession card or Repatriation Health Benefits card, or persons and dependants of persons in receipt of Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY.

Non-Concession Fees:

If you fall under the eligibility criteria but are not a secondary school student and do not have a concession card then non-concession fees apply.

*The student tuition fees are indicative only and are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment. Additional fees may apply such as student service and resource fees.

Can’t afford to pay for your course?

Flexible payment options

We have flexible payment options available for students who are unable to pay the full lump sum of their course. Course fees can be spread over the duration of the study period and payments can be made in regular instalments.

Course Fee Waiver

In instances of financial hardship, the cost of the course may be considered for fee waiver, however, students will need to provide evidence of financial hardship which may include a letter from Centrelink showing proof of income, Concession Cards, Income Support Payment details and copies of utility bills. You will also need to complete a Financial Hardship Application Form, outlining weekly household costs.
