Achieving Significant Outcomes with Centacare’s Skills for Education and Employment Program

Education helps people grow and develop to become better citizens helping shape a better society. In this feature we showcase Muliana, a mature-aged student, originally from Indonesia, who has worked tirelessly to achieve a Certificate II in General Education for Adults (CGEA).

After arriving in Australia five years ago with her husband, Muliana first heard about Centacare when she lost her eligibility for the Adult Migrant English Program.

“They cut me as I wasn’t eligible anymore,” Muliana said. “I wanted to continue improving my English as I live here and have for five years.”

Muliana wanted to gain further skills in order to make herself more employable, and was subsequently referred to Centacare by WorkSkil Australia, and has since flourished.

Centacare has helped me a lot. The teachers taught me to become where I am now, with my reading, my writing, and my speaking,” she said.

As part of her Cert II, Muliana was required to perform a presentation in front of her classmates.

“The presentation was about how to make a soap bar at home,” she said. “My teacher guided me on how to make the presentation with the PDF and then I demonstrated to the class on how to make the soap at home.”

Because of her positive experience, Muliana was full of praise for Centacare. “Centacare is a great organisation, as the teachers are nurturing and the environment is fantastic,” she said.

Muliana now volunteers at Centacare and is enrolled in an Administration course at TAFE. She has aspirations to become an employee at Centacare.

By providing students with a nurturing environment, individualised learning, and opportunities to grow, Centacare’s Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program opens doors for a brighter future.
